If you find that your fridge or refrigerator is leaking water from the freezer into your fridge area, one likely cause might be a plugged drain tube that goes from the freezer compartment and drains to an evaporation pan at the bottom of your fridge.
Your freezer takes moisture that accumulates in your freezer compartment, heats it up so it can drip down this drain tube into an evaporation pan. There it is meant to evaporate by the aid of a fan usually. In our fridge, the tube is in the shape of a ‘j’ just above the pan. I assume so water in the ‘j’ trap keeps warm air out and cold air in. Unfortunately it can trap dirt and dust, plugging the trap and stopping water from leaving the freezer. It builds up and can spill into the fridge.
I took the back cover off our lower fridge and took a nylon tie strap to push into the ‘j’ trap. The dirt plug came out with a bunch of water. I cleaned up the water and put the back on. No more leaking.
